A little introduction to this piece of writing….
Here in Canada, where I live, very strange, surprising and disturbing things are occurring. I have been spending hours online reading, watching, following links, jumping down rabbit holes, attempting to get a big clear picture of what is happening. But I just felt more confused, fearful and upset. So, I took time out from following media and alternative sources of information. I went for long walks on the beach. I listened to the waves and sea birds. I sat silently with trees in the forest. I slept and napped and dreamed.
I put my ear to the earth to listen for deeper truths. I let my rational mind rest and opened my awareness into states of higher mind. I listened humbly with my heart. Attuning with my intuition, I followed the lead of my wild inner instinct. It led me away from the outer material world into the inner subtle realms. My inner hearing, inner feeling and inner seeing opened.
Images and sounds flickered from chaos to renewal, dark annihilation to numinous eternal light. I saw new archetypes and stories emerging, ancient archons falling and old narratives unraveling. Luminous threads began to appear, swirling into ancient creation and re-genesis stories. Stories of life finding a way to renew itself through great floods and epic upheaval.
I was shown that we have now entered into an epic time, where the veils are thin, myth and magic are returning and primordial creation energies are rising. We are being given a very great gift; to liberate our higher human potentials and imagine ourselves in new ways.
My imagination took flight and I wove some of these subtle threads into the story posted below. May this little story lift your heart with the wonder and delight of a child. May it inspire you to imagine passageways opening in impossible places. And may you remember to look for the magical signs of the beautiful world we long for, now beginning to appear in the midst of our extraordinary lives.
You may also recognize that some threads from the creation stories of Turtle Island are woven into this story. I humbly and gratefully acknowledge the storyteller ancestors of Ontario and British Columbia. These stories have been told by the voices of the First Nations since time immemorial and continue to sing through the land and waters of this place called Canada. If you can’t hear them, a grandmother snapping turtle may come and bite your foot to wake you up! Which is what happened to me 20 years ago on the shores of the Moon River in Muskoka, Ontario. But that is another story…
You can read the story below or sit back and listen to me reading it to you on my youtube channel.
We Are the Seeds That Grew
I.
The Ancestors arrived.
They arrived from the Stars. They arrived from the Seas. They arrived from within the Earth. They arrived with the Winds.
The Ancestors arrived with Seeds.
Seeds sewn into their cloaks. Seeds wrapped within the soft petals of their hearts. Seeds coiled within luminous spiraling threads. Seeds embedded within their breath and words.
The Ancestors arrived with Multitudes of Seeds.
Seeds of the eternally star born. Seeds of liberation. Seeds of the free born. Seeds of unity. Seeds of peace. Seeds of renewal. Seeds of imagination.
The Ancestors planted the Seeds. They planted the Seeds in soil washed clean by the Great Floods of Living Water. Soil carried from the depths of the Great Ocean. Soil carried up to the surface in the humble paws of Muskrat. Soil spread by the animals upon the back of the Ancient One, Great Grandmother Turtle.
The Ancestors smiled.
The Stars glowed.
The Seas undulated.
The Earth sighed.
The Winds whispered.
Turtle Island grew.
The Seeds burrowed themselves deep into the new earth, excited to begin growing.
Ancestors: “Wait. It is not yet time to grow.”
Seeds: “How long shall we wait?”
Ancestors: “Until it is time to grow.”
Seeds: “But it is so dark here! How will we grow without light?”
Ancestors: “You will become the light you need to grow.”
Seeds: “But how?”
Ancestors: “Wait. You will know how to grow.”
And so, the Seeds waited in the dark earth.
II.
The seeds waited and waited and waited. The Seeds grew impatient. The Seeds began to rumble, grumble and shake.
Some began to shout:
“Enough!”
“We will wait no longer!”
“We must grow!”
Some cried out:
“But we have no water!”
“But we have no light!”
“But it is so dark and we are afraid!”
Some decided to wiggle up to the surface to find water and light. They did not return.
Some withered. Mycelium came and transformed them into humus.
III.
Meanwhile on the surface….
Invaders came. The Ancestors fought for life. There were great battles of Dark and Light. Many died. Earth received the dead. Mycelium transformed them into humus. The Grandmothers cried and watered Earth with their tears. The Earthworms created river beds within the soil. The Grandmothers tears flowed deeper and deeper and deeper into the Earth.
The Grandmothers tears reached the Seeds buried deepest in the Earth. The Grandmothers tears touched the hard outer coverings of the Seeds. The Grandmothers tears whispered prayers.
“We need you to grow now.”
IV.
Something miraculous happened.
After eons and eons and eons of waiting, the Seeds remembered how to grow.
The Seeds that had waited deep in the Earth were different. These Seeds were dissidents. These seeds did not grow upwards into individuated sprouts. They could not. The surface Earth had been pounded by the Invaders and the Wars. The surface Earth was too hard, too dense for tender sprouts to push through.
Something magical happened.
The Seeds began to grow underground. They grew together. Their tender rootlets reaching towards each other. When their tender rootlets touched, sparks of joy ignited. They glowed bioluminescence. The Seeds remembered how to generate their own light together.
The Seeds became Roots and remembered how to sing to the songs of Creation. Songs of praise. Songs of love. The Earth opened Her heart and Living Waters began to flow.
The Ancestors laughed.
The Grandmothers smiled.
The Stars emanated delight.
The Earth generated elements.
The Seas rolled with shoals of fish.
The Winds fluttered feathered wings and twirled with glee.
V.
Something wondrous happened.
The Seeds grew together as a great mass of strong roots. Roots reaching as far and wide as Turtle Island. Roots that knew how to share and transport nutrients. Roots that created great river beds deep inside the Earth. River beds for Living Water to flow and become aquifers.
Then, a Great Tree Trunk began to grow horizontally beneath the surface. A Tree Trunk as long as Turtle Island. From the Great Tree Trunk, branches sprang forth beneath the surface. Strong branches that reached in all directions, to every shore of Turtle Island.
Buds began to form on the branches beneath the surface. Millions and millions and millions of buds. Buds waiting and ready to burst with new life.
But it was still winter on the surface of Earth.
VI.
Something entirely unexpected happened.
A great rumble began. A great rumble that shook lose the densely compacted earth. A rumble that crumbled the concrete pavement that covered the great back of Grandmother Turtle. A great stampede of rolling wheels, honking horns, stomping feet and cheering voices.
The Roots mobilized. The Great Tree Trunk shuddered. The Branches trembled. The Buds sighed with relief.
Something miraculously magically wondrously tremendously surprising happened.
After the longest winter in eons, Spring returned.
Great Grandmother Turtle poked out her head.
Turtle Island heaved and cleaved.
The Seeds, planted all those long eons ago, rose up out of the Earth together as a Great Mother Tree. A tree of new life, bearing shining leaves of every shape, size and colour. Who imagined that could happen!
The Ancestors roared.
The Stars exploded into dazzling displays of light.
The Earth sighed and expanded.
The Seas shimmered with golden light.
The Winds blew the Invaders back to where they came from.
The Grandfathers laid down their war weapons.
The Grandmothers took the free hands of the Grandfathers and danced.
VII.
We are the Seeds that grew.
We are the Leaf People.
We learned to grow strong in adversity.
Together we grow as one Great Mother Tree.
Our Roots firmly planted in Peace, Love and Unity.
We stand as the Ancestor of a new humanity.
